SoundXperience
SoundXperience is not your normal multi-sample library. Normally you will find fixed and static sounds in a multi-sample library but we wanted to make SoundXperience more flexible than that. We have sampled many great synths (both hardware and software) to create sounds which are both rich and very flexible in use...

Insane Guitar Tools

What do we get?

We get “a whole lotta…” guitar samples. From single clean strings to all out 80’s divebombs and widdles. Those who love the Eighties cockrock masters like Satriani/Vai/Malmsteen, but don’t play as well as them, will love to muck around with these sounds. Lots of fun.

The Meat and Potatoes of the matter…

The package is split up into the kind of sections you would expect. They are as follows:

  • Blues Licks
  • Chords-Midi
  • Clean chords
  • Dirty Chords
  • Extreme Distortion
  • Insane Licks
  • NN19 Patches
  • NNXT patches
  • Scales
  • Scream Patches
  • Single Strings Clean
  • Single Strings Fuzz
  • The usual suspects are here with the chords section containing most of the better known chords like 7ths, flattened 7ths, maj, min, but not much else. The inclusion of some more unusual chords (hell even some diminished chords) would have made this a little more thorough. Also the sounds in each key are not always the same. They are with different tones and i suspect even different guitars sometimes. If they were all the same this would have made this section a little more useful. As far as providing effects and sounds, this little beauty has them all. From falling hammer/pulloffs, to squealing dive-bombs and almost alien screeches, it has it all. Well at least if you like your Vai-esque stunt guitars and cheesy Poison tricks. Most guitarists get past the need to emulate these sounds early on, but hey, they sure are a lot of fun. (Check out the “Steve’s wild Guitar” patch as an example. Awesome, but dripping with Cheddar).

The Strangest inclusion in this seems to be that all of the samples are put into both Wav and AIFF formats. This doesn’t make a lot of sense to me as both PC and Mac are able to read both. Certainly Mac uses AIFF more, and PC uses WAV more, but there is no logical explaination that i could think of. No biggy. Just thought it was worth mentioning.

I found the multisample patches to be a little hotchpotch, as they are not mapped correctly in the scale (they all start with the bottom E on C1 for example) and there are notes missing or doubled up between them. An oversight sure, but one that should have been fixed before its’ release.

The inclusion of a “Keyboard” folder for the NN19 was perhaps the result of a little wishful thinking on behalf of the makers of this refill. They do NOT sound like keyboards. Thay sound like exactly like what they are. Guitar tones mapped out, but played in reverse. But good on ‘em for having a go!

The inclusion of 30 new Scream 4 patches is a welcome addition, but they will require some tweaking (as will any preset). Nice to ‘ave ‘em.

There is also a folder that contains midi files of some of the more interesting scales. And one that contains .rns files of the same. It is important to know too that you are able to Import Midi, and open .rns files that reside within refills. Most people don’t know that but some kind of documentation to explain this on the packaging (which was just a laser printout) would be nice to see.

    Conclusion:

In general, i really loved this package, but this is not one for any guitarist worth his salt. The sounds are fun, and would be useful for those looking for some awesome widdly rock FX. I feel that it might be slightly overpriced for the quality of packaging and contents, but if ytou really can’t find an 80’s Cockrock guitarist out there for your project, then this might be just the ticket.
