The best big modern rock band?

Postby viba » Sun Oct 09, 2005 6:23 am

Well, its fair to say that the above artists are the biggest names in Rock at the mo', especially in the UK.

JUst wondering how you like your tea.

Me, I'm way too past U2. they are beginning to look a bit silly & their sound...
just doesnt do it for me.

Oasis, too old fashioned, dislike the attitiude

Coldplay...dont know what the fuss is about. Ok, if u like piano solos in every song.

Radiohead for me, progressive, reinventing themselves, experimental and seem like nice chaps.

Haven't heard much of Radiohead lately... are they still making albums?? If I HAVE to pick one of the above I'd go for U2 though... Not for the crap they make now, but for what they did in the past... I still listen to alot of their stuff.... Oasis was never my kinda music... Coldplay, same as Oasis...

A band I think is upcoming is Muse...

Jamie.

I never bothered to buy any cd's with those bands, and never will. I do have a copy of "morning glory" on tape somewhere that got played a lot back then. The rest of their (oasis) songs could be permantly removed from history as far as I'm concerned.

Hey wait, I got Radiohead "Pablo Honey" as a gift for my 18th. birthday. There's a few good ones on there, but I don't like that next one they did "OK computer". Too whiney for my taste.

I never liked U2 and Coldplay. Just plain boring. "Bloody sunday" is a good track though.

Everybody seem to burn out after 'the good' album. I mean: Metallica, H.I.M., Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rage Against The Machine, Nirvana, Pearl Jam.. and the ones you asked about. All of them made just 1 good album when I look back. Sure there are good songs scattered on the others, but there's only one album you'll grab if you wanna listen from start to end.

I can't decide, but it's definitly none of the above.

I think the Foo Fighters are one of the greatest living rock bands ever, and Dave Grohl one of the greatest rock musos ever. But that's only because the above mentioned aren't rock at all. They're all pop. They are all in my top 20 fav bands list (well except for Oasis who actually DO suck). Even Radiohead are experimental pop imo.

2c ;-)

I'm definitely in the "none of the above" camp. (And "Foo Fighters" Butch? P-l-e-a-s-e-! Not even rising to average on their best days.)

In my books there hasn't been an invative or decent album released since "Dawnrazor".

I've given up on rock, metal, pop, dance and indie.

Scissor Sisters? The Darkness? My farts count as more original music than that reheated 70's shite.

Black Eye'd Peas? Outcast? I can mumble better than those buggers, what is it with mumbling rather than singing with these bands.

Trance, Hard House? Getting old by the hour. /

Rap? always been short of a "C" that music.

You only have to look at the Live8, or Glastonbury line ups, to see what a sorry state modern music is in.

I've gone back to collecting early polyphony, mainly Lassus, Palestrina, and Ockeghem, with some Byrd and Tallis. Now those guys knew how to innovate.

My 4c :P

I voted for radiohead. But that's realy because I hate the other bands and radiohead is OK.

Foo fighters is great indeed. But the greatest rockband at the moment is The Mars Volta. They are not that big but the music is so good. Both albums are work of genius. And the second album is not a copy of the first one.

i might get mobbed for this...but im surpised nobody has mentioned Linkin Park.

they are the most innovative band to come along in a while. I guess cuz im younger that some of the guys here ::shrugs::

If i had to vote i would say U2. But that question definently made me think LP.

This really got me thinking... what about Rammstein? they're pretty big, innovative and provoking too.

yea, they are funny too. But not as big and popular as LP, i would say.
I love the rammstein live concert video where the dude pulls out a rubber dick from his pants and it squirts "white water" onto the crowd while he sings. it was hilarious, and he even drinks from it in the end!

I know what u mean about calling these groups rockers, but how does one define rock? I wouldnt say they are pop either...Britney & Kylie are pop.

WHat are the other 17 anyway?

Their next idoteque was distinctly electronic sounding and well worth checking out
