I think it's very much a thing to be judged on an individual basis. I personally wouldn't take such a course because 100% of the pleasure of creating music for me is knowing that it was done entirely from scratch. That isn't the case for other people - I'll actually be willing to let the end product be rubbish as long as I have a ball making it (I can always lock the duff tracks away :) ). I would however recommend you spending lots of time with other musician friends, some of whom perhaps would have been properly educated (so to speak) and you'll pick up on a lot of the terminology and production/engineering methods just from shooting the sh*t. And this place is great for that as well - just browsing I've picked up lots of little tidbits here and there.

For me it's all about writting music. Sure, I enjoy learning about production assets emensly, but I figure if I can write a great song, I'm sure I can find support in the technical area. Basicly as a independant artist, I want to make a great sounding song, perhaps just for the interenet, but when it comes time to have a bonified cd, I'm sure i'll be taking it to a different level than me sitting at home on reason.

On the other hand, if I did want to get my skills up, I've considered going to Full Sail, in Orlando FL for training. They're very extensive, and have a 13 mo program.

For now wile I'm in college, I just want to write music, and maybe perhaps someday I'll expand my skills.
