More features for a LIVE show!

Postby chriscarter » Tue Apr 17, 2007 12:51 am

One thing I don't love about Reason is ... the fact it ain't ace for taking on to a stage (although yes technically it can be done).

What I would LOVE to see is a feature which allows external audio to be routed into Reason - such as vocals - so they can be used in a live set! That way live vocals could be run through, say, a Unison unit or delay, plugged into a vocoder or routed into a Malstrom filter.

It would be MEGA cool if Propellerheads started making Reason more live performance-friendly.

I know people rave on and on about the fact you can't record audio with Reason, but I am actually cool with that. Still I would love to see Propellerheads have a crack at a recording program (obviously the name would be ReCord!) even if it is second-rate to applications such as ProTools and Cubase.

Any thoughts? :)

Being unable to record / wire audio is a major drawback for Reason. Perhaps one day they’ll finally be able to sort that out. Another thing that frustrates me when playing live is that if I wish to change the tempo of a song, I must do it manually – clicking on the mouse pad. I am able to assign buttons of controllers to the loop function, shifting the L/R bars, and shifting through patches, so I wish I could just use to buttons on my Behringer to slow or speed up tracks.

However, otherwise, I find Reason is really versatile for live work. The convenience of the interface and the mastering suite makes it ideal for musicians who play live. If one were to accompany a band, the player could open up an entire set of songs in one reason file. If, like me, you play rns files live, then the player has a lot of freedom to assign multi parameters to the external controllers easily.

Also, unlike Ableton live, the reason I chose to play directly out of rns files live is that I can create my own “mixesâ€

apparently ASIO4ALL (sorry Mac users) allows you to route audio through the rebirth input machine (no I haven't tried it yet). Basically fakes a rebirth input machine somehow. Doesn't allow recording audio but in theory this means that the output from the rebirth machine can then go through any other FX chains in your rack

hi!

whats driving me mad is the fact that the features of "petertools liveset" are not included in any way in reason. what i need is a pattern module that really is able to control the sequencer! i want to choose a new block to loop via my keyboard, preferably my PC keyboard.

i thought, regroove could do this job, but now way - propellerheads still lean back and dont think of what might be important for this software to make it a killer app! same for audio input - i cant see any point in not including this feature. it adds so much more creative flexibility to the producer!

and i dont like the vertical layout anymore. they should do a rework thats vertical-oriented and more flexible - like in ableton live. this interface rocks!

unfortunatedly, i still like the modular concept of reason and get the best results from it, thats why i'm still stuck on it. otherwise, i'd have changed already.. :?

so, viba, you wrote:
shifting the L/R bars,

- how do you achieve this? can you shift the L/R bars with an external controller? how do you do that?
