Mapping Samples to the keyboard in Emulator X

Postby gongchime » Fri Mar 10, 2006 6:50 pm

I'm trying to map several samples to the keyboard. I created several samples of each note of my gamelan (Indonesian Xylophone set).:D Then I chose the best sample for each note. Afterwards, I saved each note in a separte window. There are so many combinations of options when importing a sample to Emulator X. I've tried several but I always end up with a strange scale or a sample that Emulator refuses to read.

So for the first note we have to choose if we want to save it as a preset or just a sample. I'm assuming preset is the correct answer.;)

Then, we have to choose between things like Pitch detect and Chromatic. I hope the pitch detect works correctly on my gamelan. It's got prominent overtones so might be placed in the wrong octave or displaced by some other interval.

Then we have to decide if we want it in the original key or chromatic.

Lastly we have to make a choice between single or multisample.

Then of course I go into my newly created preset's "Voices and Zones". I created 5 new voices for this preset in which to place each sampled note. The first note is mapped from the lowest note of the keyboard to just above it's correct note (in this case C4) to C#4.

Everytime I map the next note I've sampled to the keyboard's "D" I always either get a) the wrong note, b) no sound or c) two simultaneous sounds. The sample is definitely a "D" so why is Emulator messing with it?:
