Funny enough I did a list of things today I wanted to see...
Reason Features/Updates I'd like to see:
Refresh button/option inside the Browser - This is so the user does not need to close and reopen Reason when switching ReFill cd's in your disc drive.
Custom mapped zones for the NNXT - Maybe there is a way to do this, maybe not.I'm not too fluent on samplers just yet but I have been making drum machines with them and there is nothing more annoying than rezoning everytime I make a new drum machine. In the end I either reload a drum machine I've already made and simply change all the samples or I just start from scratch.Either way it takes a long time.
More effects -
Stereo delay - Mono delays are cool,I use them often. However,I love messing with delays in stereo as well and you can only achieve it through mono trickery.
Decimator/bit crusher - This is on alot of hardware I own,I love the gritty and lo-fi sounds you can turn out of it.
New filter unit - Include High Pass, and stronger filters.
Warmer subtractive synth - Subtractor is nice but it's wave forms aren't nearly as warm and strong as my digital analog synths.A sync OSC button would be nice on the Subtractor as well, tweaking the knobs is cool for phasing and other uses but I hate sync'ing OSC's that way.Newer modulation capabilities other than Ring Mod and FM would be nice.
New synth - Malstrom and Subtractor are good synths and in the right hands people create some clever things with them, but let's face it there are plenty of soft synths out there that can wipe the floor with these two units.I'd like to see something up to date if not futuristic, take synths a bit further than where the competition is.Give us warm OSC's,plenty of modulation possibilities, and more!I'd love to see a new synth on here capable of high end sounds commonly heard on high end hardware workstations.
New distortion unit/Improved Scream 4 - Scream 4 is the don in Reason when it comes to distortion, but there are only a handful of distortion types.I'd like to see more types and more controls!
New reverb unit/Improved RV7000 - The RV7000 is also another piece in Reason that's very good, but I'd like to see even more improved control and more reverb types!
New Chorus/Flanger - Some of you may understand this unit very well,I don't.When I want a chorus I usually still get flange.I like flanging things but when I want to chorus something flange just will not do.Still, this unit is kind of old and should be updated and made even stronger.
New Phaser - I love the phaser,I even like turning on sync for even more crazy phased effects. This could be updated though.
Changes - Does anyone use the COMP-01 compressor now,or the D-11 Foldback Distortion? We have two compressors now and frankly the MClass Compressor is alot better, doing away with COMP-01 could save space and allow for newer units.I never used the D-11,I've always stuck to the Scream 4,it's alot warmer sounding and a stronger distortion unit. This one could be done away with now as well. Also I like that we have a Re-Birth Input Machine, but do we really need it?The sounds from Re-Birth are now a Re-Fill free to any Reason user. The only thing we really need out of it is the 303 synth, this could be improved and made to sound even closer to the TB-303 and just included as a 303 Synth Unit all it's own within Reason. Are there any plans for new versions of ReCycle? If there's one thing about Reason I don't like it's not being able to see something as a wave image like you would in audio editors.Chopping up loops is obviously meant for ReCycle,or the use of another program.I still use Sony Acid to chop up my sounds,I can do it fast and effectively rather than guessing by note on and off's not to mention chopping up a rex beat is insane in comparison to cutting up a wave file. The offset notes of some beats and synth lines in rex files makes it increasingly difficult to chop it up at all, that could be because I'm looking at the loop as a bunch of lines rather than a wave image.I would love to see Reason improve their sequencer and include time stretching. In other sequencers I can load up a 4 bar loop and it will stretch itself to meet that 4 bar length.Whenever I take that same sound into Reason it never sync's up to the bars,it's either short by something like 1/8,1/16,1/64,or it's over by that much.So sync'ing it up with a track is increasingly a challenge.
I'll come up with more later, but overall my opinion is if Prop's want to keep competing while still keeping their product as an isolated platform from the rest then they need to take massive step ups in their product to challenge the likes of Reaktor,Abysynth,Logic,Cubase, etc
