Ok everyone... At last there's a way for you all to share your Reason song files & some sounds here on the Reasonfreaks forum, even if you don't have your own webspace...
I've tracked down and tested a website that will let you load up files and then give you a URL for the files, so you can hook everyone up and let them hear AND see what you're doing.
There are a few instructions and rules to follow first of all.
IMPORTANT!
PLEASE READ ALL OF THIS POST BEFORE GOING AHEAD!!!
1. The free hosting site is
www.ripway.com - You just fill in your email address and a password to sign up, then you get a free account with them which gives you 30mb of on-line storage with a 3mb file upload limit and 10mb per day of traffic. For this reason it's probably no good for MP3 hosting (unless you make REALLY short tunes!) but for the small .rns files from Reason it's all good!
2. The main technical limitation of this site is that it cannot recognise Reason files, so, what you have to do is zip the song file up. This way it becomes a .zip file which Ripway can deal with. Windows users should already have this functionality, for Mac users, get a copy of the Mac Zip utility free from here >>>
www.maczipit.com Also, for Mac users, please ensure that all files from Reason are saved with the 3 letter extension to the file name (eg .rns) so that PC users can open them without re-naming first...
3. Obviously the next limitation are the sounds used in songs. For ease of use by all everyone, if you can, stick with the Factory Sound Bank (FSB) sounds that come with Reason. Or, if you have something that's working with a lot of free Refills, please include a full list the names of the Refills in your post, eg Drumomania, Analogue Monsters Vol 5, etc... This way, if people have the same refills as you have used they can also check out the song file. The last thing you want to do is make somebody have to do a lot of work to hear your song, so please bear that in mind...
4. It's not just song files that you can share... The Subratctor, Malstrom, Scream 4 and RV-7000 are ripe for file-sharing with as their files are so tiny. Also, NN-19 and XT files can be posted if they are just the .smp/.sxt patches made to work with the FSB sounds, or are fairly small file-sizes... (Bear in mind there's only 10mb per day file transfer allowance at Ripway!) If you've made a booming bass, killer lead or filthy nasty Scream patch, why not share it with everyone here? Also, if you're in desperate need of that certain sound, perhaps someone else has made one that fits the bill, so post requests in the Reason Refills & Sounds forum for this sort of thing too!
5. With every post, please ensure you do the following:- a). Check the URL that Ripway gives you in your browser before you post a link - this makes sure it works for you and for everyone else... It's like the rule of testing a CD works before you post it to a record label...! b). Please indicate the file size next to the link you post so that people can know what they should expect to download (Ripway tells you this info on your account screen with them...)
6. Anyone found to be abusing this and posting either illegal material of any sort, copyright protected material or files that contain malicious software/viruses or any other unacceptable material will be IMMEDIATELY BANNED, and where apropriate REPORTED TO RELEVENT AUTHORITIES, just so that's clear and out in the open. Absoultely NO WAREZ either! By posting files on the forum using Ripway it is deemed that you have read these rules and are happy to abide by them.
7. Have fun! This feature of Reason was always intended to be used a lot, but not everyone has webspace and facilities to sort it out... Now things are different! Make the most of it!!
* Final point - for the record, Reasonfreaks and all of it's Moderators and Administrators are in no way connected to
www.ripway.com and as such, any issues af service should be taken up directly with them.
Enjoy!
